Escape to Aux Gazelles, Vienna
In the midst of Vienna’s urban sprawl lies an oasis, a little corner from an exotic land. It is here at Aux Gazelles where you get whisked away from Vienna and land peacefully into Marrakesh.
Defying classification, this former brick factory consists of a French-Moroccan restaurant, a cozy salon du thé, an Arabic bazaar, a panoramic business lounge, an elegant hammam, classy champagne and cocktail bar, and a Bedouin café!
Situated right around the corner of Vienna’s shopping Mecca Mariahliferstrasse at Rahlgasse 5, the scenery transforms upon your first steps. The clay hues, oriental carpeting, and aroma of strong Arabic coffee welcome you to Aux Gazelle’s parallel universe.
Extending beyond the café lies the elegant and atmospheric bar, specializing in classic cocktails and champagnes. Aux Gazelles also spoils the public with its lavish oyster and caviar bar from 10:00 to 2:00 a.m. from Mondays to Saturdays alongside the restaurant at its core.
Among palm trees and wooden engravings, candlelit dinners look out onto the panoramic inner courtyard.
Aux Gazelles doesn’t stop here though. Owner and founder Christine Ruckendorfer’s vision was to provide the very finest and authentic experience based on her own encounters with Morocco. The ornate hammam blends both the classical Oriental style of Morocco and the elegance of contemporary design.
Included in the hammam visit is the salon du thé, where amid candlelight, colossal pottery, and snug sofas you can enjoy the tranquil powers of a Turkish coffee or thé a la menthe.
Perhaps one last stop is needed to fully profit from Aux Gazelles. And that can be achieved by stopping in the bazaar and picking up a memento to remind you that within Vienna’s walls, you experienced Marrakesh.
