In an effort to challenge the Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble has launched the Nook electronic book reader. It differs from the kindle because it has a color 6 inch E-ink screen, a bottom touch screen, and it is an android-powered device. Currently, the touch screen is used only as a navigating device.
The Nook features a 3G wireless connection, which is no different than the Kindle. What sets the Nook apart is its Wi-fi access and its 16GB memory expansion slot, in addition to its already built in 2GB.
Another new feature of the Nook is a lending option where you can lend ebooks to friends, straight to a blackberry, an iPhone, or another Nook system completely free for a total of 14 days. Additionally, the Nook allows you to listen to MP3 audio and upload pdfs.
One of the Nook’s downfall is the battery life is less than the Kindle. On average, the Kindle can run up to 14 days, while the Nook can last up to 10 days.
The Nook will go on sale this November, right in time for the holidays.
