Dell Adamo
Two years ago, Steve Jobs, the Apple Chairman, introduced the world to a need for thin laptops, with the world’s flagship slimline computer - the Macbook Air. This message clearly resonated around the industry, because after two years of development, Dell has retaliated with the Adamo XPS.
That was definitely time well spent - while the Macbook is 194 mm at its thickest, the developers at Dell have managed to halve this - offering a laptop at a miniscule 99 mm thick. The thinnest laptop ever crafted.
Aside from the unheard of level of thinness, the Adamo also presents a whole new ergonomic to laptop design. The keyboard of the system, when unfolded, actually stands at a 20 degree angle from the surface it is on, rather than flush against it.
Not only does this create a pleasing aesthetic, with a keyboard that appears to seamlessly connect to the display, but provides a healthier typing position for hands.
The machined, torsion-tested aluminium chassis and backlit keyboard complete the visual appeal of the machine, while the 13.4-inch widescreen display offers a 16:9 HD display, making the computer
completely compatible with future video media.
While the machine has low numbers for size and weight, the rest of it is very-much industry leading: 2.1Ghz Core 2 Duo Processor, 4GB DDR ram, Wireless N, over five hours of battery life and a solid state hard drive mean that the Adamo is as powerful inside as it is beautiful outside - a lethal combination for industry rivals.
The Adamo is available in a choice of two colours, silver aluminium with unique etching and a pearly finish, or onyx aluminium with a brushed finish.
