Aptera: Greener Commuter Car
Some time back, we told you about the environmentally-friendly Aptera car which boasts 300 miles per gallon and promises a performance number of eleven seconds to 60 miles and a maximum of 95 miles per hour at full speed. Well, the company recently debuted their first pre-production model of their much anticipated 2e version.
The sharp 2e design sports an aerodynamic body that reduces drag, which tends to lessen the vehicles energy and decreases its fuel economy. The company claims that with “a low drag coefficient of 0.15, the Aptera 2e realizes less drag than Lance Armstrong on a ten speed!”
The electric vehicle also features a lithium-based battery, front wheel drive, solar plate rooftop, and an integrated high-strength aluminum door beams for safety, transferring the crash loads into the body and away from the cabin.
The company is on schedule for the car’s release this October 2009. Aptera is currently taking orders online at www.aptera.com. We admire Aptera for their innovative approach to a greener commuter car.
