The Ever Fascinating: Helen Mirren

This year’s most powerful biopic, The Last Station, is generating heavy Oscar buzz and it is no surprise, considering the powerful and prolific actress headlining the film. Helen Mirren plays Sofya Tolstoy, wife and muse to Russian War and Peace author Leo Tolstoy. Although Mirren plays the woman behind the man, she by no means plays second fiddle.

Mirren has long been known for her ability to carry a film despite the size of her role. She is an inexhaustible British film and television actress who was recently awarded a lifetime achievement award at the Women in Film and Television Awards in London on December 4th.

She is also scheduled to receive the Career Achievement award at the 21st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 5th. Despite the fact that Mirren could very well retire now and still be considered one of the best film actresses of all time, she is very much still working and piling on one film role after another.

She has no plans of stopping even though she has already broken numerous records in the film industry: She was the first female actress to be nominated for three Golden Globes in the same year, the first ever to win Golden Globes for Television and film in the same year, and the third actress ever to win a Golden Globe, an Oscar, and an Emmy in the same year.

But regardless of all of her accomplishments, Mirren has not let all of her success get to her head. She recently stated that most of her awards are kept in her attic. And she no doubt will collect many more. Although The Last Station just saw its release date on December 4th, Mirren has seven more films in the works and has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
