Virgin to Los Angeles

Virgin to Los Angeles

V Australia is one of the 8 airlines flying under the Virgin label, and earlier this month launched their new non-stop service between Melbourne and Los Angeles, in direct competition to Qantas, the main Australian carrier.

It’s a major occurrence when an airline decides to introduce a new destination or a particular routing, so one can assume that V Australia has done their homework, both on this new service and also on their new Melbourne to Phuket services which also started earlier this month, and Melbourne to Johannesburg (due to start in March 2010).

V Australia carries on the distinctively playful, almost youth orientated company culture and marketing push that originated with the first Australian based Virgin carrier, Virgin Blue in 2000.

V Australia’s launch campaign went so far as to tell potential passengers that they could “fly like a rock star,” although this can make one wonder just how “rock star” economy class is.

Having said that, V Australia’s new fleet (of Boeing 777’s) does offer economy class seats of more generous dimensions than other carriers, and the aircraft toilets feature full length mirrors, which are handy for checking your rock star look before you’re hounded by paparazzi upon your arrival.
