Chodovar Bathing Beer Brewery

Chodovar Bathing Beer Brewery

We are all aware of the virtues of wine on the heart and the extolling powers of scotch and whiskey for a sore throat, but when it comes to beer, the only effects that are recognized are the ones to a man’s belly. However, in the Czech Republic, a country celebrated for its frothy beer culture, they have discovered that there is much more to beer than meets the eye.

Situated in the calm Czech countryside surrounded by hills and forests, the ancient Chodovar Beer Brewery has been turned into a tranquil spa center specializing in enriching dark beer baths. This is not the place where one finds college students on spring break, but rather where people go to relax and recondition the body.

Guests stay next-door at the bohemian style Hotel U Sladka. The spa itself is situated in wholesome brick and stone rooms. Specialized metallic bathtubs support the minimalistic tone. A mixture of warm traditional beer and mineral-rich water at over 34 degrees fills the tub gradually. Just like at the brewery, the beer is a mixture of beer yeast, hops, and dried crushed herbs, meant to purify and regenerate the skin.

After the 20-minute bath is over, it is time for the rest period. Lying down on a bed with a fleece quilt and the lights dimmed down, the body begins to fully soak in the minerals from the bath. As the muscles and heart rate relax and the sweating period cools off, pores in the rejuvenated skin open, taking in the substances. And to top it all off, a 30-50 minute massage ends the treatment, with the newest addition up for choice being to spoil you with a lava stone massage.

For those brave enough to venture off the pampered path, Chodovar provides relaxation, reinvigoration, and an experience to remember.
