Airbus 380, France’s Superjumbo

Friday, November 20th, the world witnessed the maiden flight of Air-France’s new state-of-the-art Airbus A380 from Paris to New York. Joining Qantas, Air Emirates, and Singapore Airlines, it is the first European carrier to use the superjumbo jet for commercial flights.

This version of the Airbus A380 can carry up to 538 passengers for its daily trans-Atlantic flights. The majority of seats will be available for economy class passengers, with only 9 first-class seats available. In first-class, however, you may enjoy the greatest of luxuries. A bar and open buffet are available as well as personal storage areas and private changing rooms that come fully equipped with beauty products.

A private entrance from first-class leads to the plane’s gallery, which is also available from business class. Here Air-France has gotten the exclusive rights to showcase video exhibits of some of the most prominent museums around the world. The exhibitions will be changed regularly and broadcast on three large screens.

The 449 economy-class passengers will enjoy seats that are 30% wider than they are on regular airplanes. Each passenger will also be able to choose from among 100 films and thousands of songs from their own private screen. While the lighting inside changes up to 5 different settings for more comfort, noise levels are drastically reduced inside the cabins due to its clever design.

Air-France’s superjumbo jet is a worthy addition to its fleet and to the 3 other versions in existence.
