Resorting to Loeffler Randall
For the very first time, the creative forces at Loeffler Randall have launched a Resort collection. It is aimed at that miniscule window of time between winter and spring when mother earth can’t quite simply make up her mind yet between snow and sun.
There is a purgatory in this period, one that balances the leftover aggression of winter with the regenerative promises of spring.
Loeffler Randall’s Resort collection is meant for the brave woman who cannot wait any longer for spring to arrive. The collection is a mixture of sandals and boots, open to where you spend the season, whether in sunny beach escapes or trudging through inner city slush.
Carrying on from the winter collection, the Resort collection is inspired by the robust works of artist Louise Bourgeois and the colors designer Jessie Randall found in her favorite children’s book by Leo Lionni, “Little Blue and Little Yellow”.
It is surprising how clear these influences can be seen. Louise Bourgeois has lent the powerful shapes and lines of her sculptures, particularly in the Keira and sandal Carlie Mignon. The Carlie Mignon series of spring sandals are tailor-made for the escape from the winter season, when one can finally let the feet relax and breath a bit. Exposing as much skin as it can, the many leather cords that wrap the ankle and toes are like cocoons that caress the feet.
The Keira is perfect for the transitional period of winter and spring. Accented by thick, stout leather lines that surround the foot like a spider web, they provide sturdy support and protection whilst maintaining a high level of elegance.
While the shapes may be defined by the works of Louise Bourgeois, the color palette is clearly taken from the misadventures of “Little Blue and Little Yellow”. While yellow and blue are not the colors of the collection for obvious reasons, warm browns, beiges, and of course the stark, dark green of the little blue’s and little yellow’s ultimate union is the standout color of the season.
