Poworama by Pierre Hardy

How very appropriate, Roy Lichtenstein is brought back to life by Pierre Hardy. The “Poworama” ankle sneaker is the latest collection of Pierre Hardy, honoring the Pop Art movement of the 1960’s and one of the most prominent American pop artist of the time.

The sneaker is created from perforated leather with lance and Velcro fastening and a rubber sole. It is a limited edition piece of 500 pairs, sold only in specific boutiques around the globe.

Lichtenstein is known for favoring old-fashioned comic strip subject matters with a bit of an hedge in a humorous manner. His work was largely influenced by popular advertising similar to the works of Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and James Rosenquist, and to contemporary comic book style.

His most recognizable piece is “Whaam!” (image in the link above), which is a magna on canvas created in 1963. The painting depicts a fighter aircraft firing a rocket into an enemy plane, with a red-and-yellow explosion. The piece is on display at the Tate Modern, in London.

One of our favorite Lichtenstein is “El Cap de Barcelona,” a surrealist sculpture depicting a head, in Barcelona. The sculpture is made of ceramic tile and it is meant as an homage to Gaudi and Barcelona’s passion for mosaics.

If you want a pair, perhaps as a holiday gift for the art aficionado in your life, do not wait too long. We predict this recently release collection will be gone soon.
