The Boijmans van Beuningen Museum is currently housing The Art of Fashion: Installing Allusions exhibit, a must see for all fashionistas and art enthusiasts alike. It has been on display since September and will run through January 10, 2010.

The display focuses mainly on examining fashion as a branch of art. Although the primary function of a fashion piece is to be worn, it undergoes the same creative process as an art piece that is meant only to be stimulating on a sensory level and serves no other purpose. For that reason, many of the pieces in the show were especially commissioned for this exhibit, which gave the designers more freedom because they were not restricted by a runway or by how wearable their pieces may be.

The show also explores how art is affected by fashion and trends. Art and fashion have formed a sort of symbiotic relationship and the line between the two has been blurred. The exhibit is a visually enriching one and features several prominent fashion designers such as Viktor & Rolf, Comme des Garcons and Bless. The show is accessorized by two pieces; The Art of Fashion catalogue and a book “Fashion and Imagination”.

The catalogue is meant to directly accompany the display, and the book provides more of a background into the merging of the two forms. The Art of Fashion Exhibit is a static show and was put together by guest curators of the museum Jose Tuenissen and Judith Clark.
