An eye towards the future for something déjà vu
An eye towards the future for something déjà vu
This year accessories have been strongly influenced by what we saw on stands and while seating at the front rows of last season’s fashion shows. One outstanding facture is that the trend has been created by those who actually wore it and not the big fashion houses.
The era of plateaus seems to be passé, leaving room for a more bondage feel, with feet wrapped in narrow leather straps, in a range of colors from a nude look nuance to the brightest pantone yellow.
Etro’s interpretation is very elegant, with its stiletto heels and the new sandal version of the beloved Mary Jane. Blugirl goes for something definitely more aggressive, with the intrusion of a large ton-sur-ton button. Paul Smith goes for the summer boots again, made to stand out with a choice of much more acid tones, in contrast with the mood of the rest of his collection.
Martin Margiela brings the extremes together with a single seasonal must-have, his classic ankle boots, in an oriental-inspired material, revealed with both the “skin effect” and the snakeskin print, which seems to have been a favorite of most shows, from Gucci with its emerald-green maxibag and Ferragamo with its curvy shoulder bags.
Without a doubt, the key item this season is our old faithful partner, the clutch. For literature enthusiasts, Anna Sui managed to turn the biggest female accessories cliché into something intellectual, while Alessandro dell’Acqua has created some beautiful images for N21. D&G and Giorgio Armani have hidden some cosmetic treasures inside their clutches for those women who cannot be short of perfection.
Rodarte also thinks of these women with their reflective heels that eliminate the need to go and look for a mirror, just lift a shoe.
Kenzo, after his multicolored satin macaroons, proposes a fun bicolor leather bucket bag with a blue navy tone, a maritime illusion also followed by Mary Williamson’s rope fringes and Dolce & Gabbana’s entwined leather, a taste of old yet modern Sicily.
Viktor & Rolf’s elaborate sunglasses give a more sophisticated feel to the most common flower, while Prada seems not to have forgotten last season’s contemporary baroque.
