Alexander Wang’s Working Girl
Alexander Wang’s Working Girl
Alexander Wang joked recently that the woman who typically wears his clothes, well, she must work sometimes. This obvious statement is the inspiration behind his latest venture: officewear. It’s not completely out of the blue from someone who has built an empire from casual sportswear.
As most people can attest to, a lot of time is spent at the office. During the week, it comes to no surprise that we see our colleagues much more than we see our loved ones. This new Alexander Wang collection is made for that woman. The woman who works hard and wants to look good doing it. The woman who needs practicality as much as style.
There is nothing outlandish in the 2010 pre-fall line. In fact, it never strays far from a professional black look. The mood is sleek and comfortable, professional and incredibly fashionable. It wouldn’t look out of place at either the office or a night out at your favorite cocktail bar.
The main feature that puts the look of the collection together is the layering of garments. Slender pants, leggings, and the occasional skirts that reach down over the knees, are accentuated with shirts, sweaters, and jackets that drape the body.
The tops are never too tight and the clothes never too revealing. Wang instead has opted for the more geometric and graphic lines that only very subtly emphasize feminine curves.
Nothing truly screams out in the collection. There is nothing either wild or exorbitant about it. But that is the most positive element to the officewear line. It is meant for daily wear by the businesswoman with an edge, with a little bit of flair to her.
With Alexander Wang’s input, the office scene has never looked this good before.
