The Importance of Color in Design

The significance of color and its affect on the entire design process is, and always will be the foundation of any design project.

Mundane pieces of crisp, bland furniture can be suddenly transformed into a lavish affair of modern yet cozy personalized items with a simple addition of textured fabric throws, pillows and oodles of colors from bold to inviting earthy tones that may suit the objective of any design aficionado. The mere act of introducing a particular color can immediately transform a room to symbolize an era, taste or a specific emotion.

Take for example retro furniture. Who could have thought that it would make such a splashing comeback with its bold lines and subtle mixtures of powder blues, oranges and browns? Clearly, there had to have been something in the air that allowed these colors to reflect a certain mood in society. It will be interesting to see how the colors of this new season will develop, or mirror the current international climate.

Perhaps the future might bring us an exciting combination of whitewashed antiques adorned with brushed aluminum/polished chrome, frosted or crackled glass with deeper, bolder colors to offset bright and plain spaces.

Sprinkles of shimmering candles may serve as a hint of elegance and fun. While, classical books and majestic paintings gently arranged on a contemporary bookshelf, with daring miniature sculptures and trinkets can represent a time lapse of past memories and a reminder of adventures yet to come.

We will always utilize our creativity to assimilate our own “unique” tastes in combination with the ultra modern glamour that persuades the design and fashion industry. Simply by adding our own little touches and personalizing it would add warmth and a feeling of belonging and pride.

The future might motivate us to create our own piece of artwork, a handcrafted throw, or anything that would announce to our guests, and owner alike: this is my home! Just go ahead and have fun with it, but do not get too overwhelmed with trends and specifications.

As we delve into designing our living space, we should find a balance between embracing new concepts and continuing to add our personal touches.
