Inopia, Barcelona

When Albert Adrià is not tinkering with desserts like a microwave sponge cake in the workshop he runs with his brother Ferran above their famed restaurant, El Bulli, he can usually be found at his tapas bar, Inopia, in Barcelona.

While his brother is the more recognized of the two, considered by many to be one of the best, if not controversial, chefs in the world, Albert is proving he knows a thing or two about savory bites through his menu at Inopia.

Located in the tragically hip neighborhood of Sant Antoni along the Tamarit, Inopia’s Catalonian small plates are worth standing up for, especially specialties like Moorish lamb kebabs, Ibérico ham croquettes, fried artichokes, and confit of tuna belly.

The packed crowds don’t leave you much time to savor the décor, which isn’t much to begin with, with its fluorescent lighting and suspicious posters from sponsors. While there’s a good chance many diners come for the first time just to see Ferran Adria’s brother work the crowd, you can bet most stay for the food.
