Croatia’s Hidden Food Treasure
Croatia’s Hidden Food Treasure
Not long ago, we told you how Croatia is now the new glitzy playground for European elites in our article entitled Riva Hvar Yacht Harbour Hotel, Croatia. Well, Croatia is not only known for its exclusive yacht clubs, luxury hotels, and fancy waterfront promenades but also for its hidden cuisine treasures.
At the Northwest part of Croatia, closest to Italy and Slovenia, is the small peninsula of Istria, happily deprived of the overwhelming tourists that over populate its more popular neighbor to the north. Here, the humble restaurant Mondo Konoba cooks up some of the best local cuisine in the area, faithful to its regional ingredients.
The restaurant is located just outside the medieval village of Motovun, in the Croatian countryside, where wild truffles are abundant and a fresh amount are dug up daily by local hunters. Food critic Kabir Chibber, of the New York Times, recommends the regional favorite a beef carpaccio with shavings of black truffle, a rich and creamy polenta with truffles and a delicious dish of tagliatelle, in a truffle sauce.
The service at Mondo Konoba is friendly and welcoming and the staff is multilingual.
This is the perfect location for food enthusiasts who do not mind going off the beaten path for a unique gastronomic experience; taking-in the Croatian culture, the beautiful views of Motovun, and of course the local food.
