Café Germain, Rive Gauche

Café Germain, Rive Gauche

Located in the 6th Arrondissement, on rive gauche, is Café Germain, which local fans claim it has the best mojitos in Paris. Restaurateur and all-around entrepreneur, Thierry Costes asked architect India Mahdavi to create the interior of the three-floor space, on 25-27 rue de Buci.

The result is an attractive, colorful, and comfortable space where the key differencing feature, some would argue the key attraction besides the drinks, is Paris-based artist Xavier Veilhan’s massive yellow sculpture of a woman in a trench coat.

The figure’s lower half stands on high heels on the first floor of the café, while the rest of her torso appears to breakthrough to the second floor right into the private lounge area. It is wonderfully original and refreshingly creative, but one would not expect less from such a talented pool of creators.

Currently, it is believed to be the sole place in Paris proper to have fish and chips on the menu, which needless to say is extraordinarily scandalous.
