Azzedine Alaïa, Groninger Museum
A new exhibition at the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands presents the most astonishing work by renowned fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa. The exhibition, which ends on May 6, 2012, is entitled Azzedine Alaïa in the 21st Century and focuses on the designers creations of the last ten years.
Alaïa is one of the last major couturiers still active. When Valentino retired not long ago, the film team that documented his departure ruffled some feathers in the fashion world by calling Valentino the “Last Emperor.” Many believe that designers like Azzedine Alaïa, though rare, are just as equally dedicated and as impressive as Valentino.
The current exhibition is a follow up to the overview of Alaïa’s work shown in the Groninger Museum in 1998, which was subsequently displayed at the Brant Foundation in New York in 2002.
Tunisian-born Azzedine Alaïa is considered as one of the most important fashion designers of the last decades.
The name Alaïa is synonymous with glamor, sensuality, style, cut, self-confidence, comfort and, of course, sex appeal. His range of clothing has received great acclaim from top fashion figures and celebrities alike.
