World Expo 2010 Shanghai
With less than 100 days to go until China’s Shanghai Expo 2010 commences, the theme slogan is catching on with a confirmed 192 countries and 50 international organizations participating, and an expected 70 million visitors.
The Expo presents countries from around the world with a territory to build upon, to show the rest of the world the cutting-edge design and architectural spectacles, among many other scientific, technological and commercial marvels, that they have on offer.
This event has become a historical ritual running back over one and half centuries, the first taking place in London at the Crystal Palace (1851), followed by New York, Dublin and Paris. Not only is the Expo an occasion to celebrate creativity but it is also a mark of cultural diversity, uniting a collection of contrasting tastes and traditions with unique histories.
The Expo also sees competitive rivalry unfold among countries, and a definite boast of wealth in combination with a desire to show a rather healthy industrial vitality at the heart of city life.
The event aims to devote 5.28 square km in the centre of Shanghai to exhibitions, forums and venues that seek to make an impact on visitors and participants, transforming the city into a first class role model of peaceful urban living that masterfully incorporates sustainability and environmentally friendly planning into ambitious economic projects for the future.
China will welcome the contribution of the construction of a Pavilion from each participant, to showcase the imagination, character, and architectural splendor of each nation, while thousands of private and cultural organizations will use the event to establish new trading relationship and cultural ties to produce the world’s largest business fair in history.
