Japan’s 1300th anniversary of Nara

The Former Imperial Audience Hall is today’s main restoration project, to be finished this year ahead of the 1300th anniversary of Nara Heijo-kyo Capital. Events began early this year, to continue throughout 2010, and will see giant light displays amid numerous exhibitions and informative tours in the promotion of Japan’s rich cultural ancient past, present as well as looking to the future of the region.

On April 23, there will be a special memorial service to commemorate the restoration of the Formal Imperial Audience Hall, which used to hold state ceremonies and welcomed the Emperor, who worked and lived with officials and functionaries in Heijo Palace.

A life-size replica model of a Japanese diplomatic ship will be on display for visitors to experience at the Heijo-kyo History Museum, in addition to video shows which will use computer-generated images of ancient buildings and structures, some of which can be seen in the official website for the event, www.1300.jp.

Organizers want to provide visitors with an unforgettable and true to life recreation of life in Japan, 1300 year ago. A Nero Palace Tour will be available to guests, who get the chance to learn about the construction work involved in restoring the site, as well as receiving new insight into the buried structures that are currently waiting to be uncovered.

Archaeological excavations are in the process of being carried out by researchers, who are working to provide the fullest picture of what the Heijo Palace looked like in its time.
